Some Thoughts

Aristotle on Friendship

This was actually one of the first comics I drew almost for practice. I liked the quote because it touches on a skillset that arguably is lacking in our American culture. It is not uncommon to watch public figures, celebrities and social commentators bail on supposed friends at the drop of a dime. There are entire reality shows devoted to this cultural trend of fake relationships. Usually these bonds cave in for some kind of monetary gain or position of power. It can't be healthy for young people to witness this as a pastime routinely.

It is said that Aristotle was once asked a series of questions that impressed the great philosopher Diogenes Laertius. In John Gillies book Aristotle's Ethics it is noted of the philosopher:

"His smart sayings and quick repartees were long remembered and admired by those incapable of appreciating his weightier merits. Some of these sayings, though apparently not the most memorable, are preserved in Diogenes Laertius; of which the following may serve for a specimen. Being asked. What, of all things, soonest grows old? — Gratitude. What advantage have you reaped from study? — That of doing through choice what others do through fear. What is friendship? — One soul in two bodies."

Brianna The Brave

Ralph Ellison’s novel Invisible Man was the inspiration for this comic. My take was to place a nameless character navigating a surreal world full of the philosophical angst of 19th-century philosophers.

Labor of Love

This story has been conceptualized visually and is not written yet. Growing up I loved reading stories that featured talking animals so I had to conceive one of my own. Please enjoy the colorful illustrations.
